PRIVACY:  The Shareholders' Perspective

Shareholders lose when companies ignore the right to privacy

ESG factors play an important role in determining risk and return, and investors are increasingly aware that corporate conduct can affect shareholder value. A great concern in our digital age are companies that disregard and profit improperly from privacy violations. Accusations of violations by companies such as Facebook and Google (Alphabet) resulted in stock price declines and serious damage to their reputations.

In this informal luncheon gathering, we will examine the role of privacy related considerations from the shareholders' perspective. This will include timely discussions of shareholder remedies when a company commits serious privacy violations, and how the introduction of the EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) highlighted Europe’s concerns over privacy infringements.
